Reflection of overseas placement in Taiwan

Time flies like an arrow! I cannot believe that I have already been in Taiwan for one and a half month. People here are very nice and helpful and Taiwan is an energetic place with large variety of tasty food. I love to visit the night markets most.

The placement here is also very different from that in Hong Kong. I am in the bedside group in Physical Therapy Center (PTC) in National University Hospital. In the ward, many of the patients have their own attends who take care of them 24 hours a day while in Hong Kong, there aren’t any attends. Therefore, being a physiotherapist here, it is essential for us to communicate well with the patients as well as their attends. It is also our responsibility to teach the caregiver to do the transfer skill and other techniques, such as percussion etc. Also, teachers in PTC are very nice and willing to teach us a lot of things. My clinical educator is Mr. Lai and he had clarified a lot of concept for me. He also helped me to solidify my ability in critical thinking and problem-solving. Therefore, I have learnt a lot here.

The most remarkable moment here is the time I worked in the neonatal ICU. The infants look very cute but fragile. I remembered that when I first time to touch the infant, she cried vigorously which made me feel very nervous. But now, I have a lot more experience to treat the baby and learnt different techniques and treatments, which are definitely helpful for me in the future.

All in all, I have a meaningful placement in Taiwan and I am looking forward to have another chance to serve here. Also, I would like to thank National Taiwan University and the staff of PTC in NTUH for arranging such a fruitful placement for us. I hope that the student in NTU who are going to have placement in Hong Kong will enjoy the placement there. Hope to see you guys soon in Hong Kong.
