Welcome to Taiwan! I would like to say “Hello!” to each one of you to attend the congress. I would like to say “Ohaiyo!” to PTs from Japan that you are the biggest group in this congress. I would like to say “Annyeong!” to PTs from Korea. I would like to say “Sàwàtdee kâ” to PTs from Thailand. I would like to say “Bula” to Usha, the only PT from Fiji. I would like to say “大家好(普通話)!” to PTs from China. I would like to say “大家好(河洛話及客語)!” to PTs from Taiwan.

It is our honor to host the 6^th WCPT-AWP & 12^th ACPT Congress in Taichung, Taiwan. We are delighted to know that there are close to one thousand delegates from more than 30 countries participating in this congress. A lot of delegates are from our regions and some are from related regions. I believe that you are all excited to participate in this congress and would like to contribute to the progress of our profession. Please use this congress as a platform to share our experience in education, clinical practice and research. Let’s take the opportunity to interact and learn from each other through scientific programs and social activities.

Today we have three officers of Taiwan as our special guests: Dr. DonaldShang (商東福主任), Director of Office of International Cooperation, representative of Minister Wen-Da Chiou of Health and Welfare of Taiwan; Mr. Shiau Ping Lo (羅曉屏參事), Confidential Counselor, representative of Legislative Speaker Jin-Pyng Wang;and Ms. Jau-Hui Wu(吳昭慧專員), representative of Mayor Dr. William Lai of Tainan City who is an alumni of NTU-PT and has offered every delegate pineapple cakes. Last night, Taichung Mayor Dr. Jason Hu has delivered the most humorous speech that I have ever had. He provides the international delegates sun cakes. Another special guest is Dr. Wu, prior President of Taiwan Neurological Society.

I would like to introduce several distinguished guests: Dr. Marilyn Moffat, President of WCPT; Ms. Brenda Myres, Secretary General of WCPT, Dr. Gillian Webb, Chair of Asia-Western Pacific Region of WCPT, Dr. Margot Skinner, WCPT Executive Member of AWP Region; Dr. Joyce Mothabeng, WCPT Executive Member of AfricaRegion; and Mr. Wen-jen Chien, Chairman of ACPT. Also, President Jeng-Feng Yang of National Federation of Physical Therapists Taiwan; President Hui-Ming Chai of Taipei Physical Therapists Society; President Chiang of Physical Therapy Society of New Taipei City.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the financial support of the National Science Council, and ministries of economics, education and foreign affairs of Taiwan government, as well as several domestic and international exhibitors. I also thank the hard work of our organizing and scientific committee members in the past two years to plan the scientific programs and social activities. You are the geatest team that I have ever worked with. Finally, I would like to thank the chairs, speakers and delegates for your participation to make this congress to come true. I hope you all enjoy the programs and have very good memory of Taiwan when the congress is disclosed. Thank you very much!
